Barely three days before his retirement,Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Des Raj,who has arrested over 200 proclaimed offenders, has been booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on charges of demanding a bribe.

While he managed to give the CBI sleuths, who laid a trap for him on Friday night in Sector 46,the slip, head constable Vijender Singh was arrested for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from a proclaimed offender for not arresting him.

Vijender Singh was produced today before the Court of Special CBI Judge Ritu Tagore who sent him to 14 days judicial remand. Des Raj,who is yet to be arrested,is to retire on February 28. The two officers are accused of demanding a bribe amount of Rs 3,000 from the proclaimed offender,Tangri for not arresting him.

Vijender is said to have arrested nearly 100 proclaimed offenders with Des Raj. A case under the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act was registered against Des Raj and Vijender Singh on the basis of a complaint by Tangri. Tangri had been declared a PO in a cheque dishonour case two years back and had been traced by the two police officers.

The CBI has in its possession a telephonic conversation between Des Raj and the complainant in which Raj allegedly demands a bribe to settle the money. In the conversation,Des Raj allegedly directed the complainant,Tangri,to hand over the money to Vijender on Friday night in Sector 46. A cautious Des Raj had thrice changed the location for the delivery of bribe money. First,he had asked the complainant to deliver the bribe money before Kalagram. He then changed the location to ISBT,Sector 17 and finally asked him to turn up in Police quarters,Sector 46. Raj was using two cell phones to remain in touch with the complainant.Sources said that Des Raj seems to have learnt about the trap laid by the CBI,as a result of which he ran away. The CBI sleuths have also seized some important documents from the houses of ASI Raj and HC Vijender in the police quarters,Sector 46.
