CHANDIGARH: Congress councillor Subhash Chawla on Tuesday resigned from the chairmanship of a committee constituted to look into the alleged anomalies in laying of pipelines by the Municipal Corporation. Incidentally,the committee met for the first time on Tuesday. The BJP councillors objected to the non-inclusion of their party colleague Saurabh Joshi in the committee. Joshi had raised the issue in the meeting of the general house. The BJP councillors were also against naming Superintending Engineer (Public Health) R C Diwan as the convenor of the committee. Following the arguments,Chawla submitted his resignation to Mayor Raj Bala Malik.
73 people donate blood at camp
CHANDIGARH: As many as 73 people donated blood at the seventh Kamlesh Sharma Memorial Blood Donation Camp,organised by Yuva Sankalp Foundation in collaboration with Society for Divine Reiki Meditation at Panjab University. Mayor Raj Bala Malik,in the presence of former MP Satya Pal Jain,inaugurated the camp held in the memory of the late Kamlesh Sharma,the mother of BJP councillor Davesh Moudgil.
SBI presents MUV to NGO
CHANDIGARH: N K Chari,chief general manager,State Bank of India,Chandigarh circle,on Tuesday handed over the keys of a Tata Winger,a multi-utility vehicle (MUV),to Jyoti Sarup Kanya Asra Society,Kharar,an NGO involved in the welfare of poor/orphan girls. The vehicle will be used for ferrying inmates of the society to and from their schools. Doctor Harminder Singh,founder president of the society,appreciated the SBIs gesture.
