Country-made liquor seized,one held under Excise Act
Chandigarh: The police arrested Amit Kumar,a resident of Janta Colony,Nayagaon,from near Kachi Colony Jhuggi,Sector 25,Chandigarh on Saturday and recovered 100 quarters of country-made liquor and 44 quarters of Officer’s choice from his possession. He was booked under various sections of the Excise Act. The accused was later released on bail.
Four held for gambling in three separate incidents
Chandigarh: Police have arrested four people in the city for gambling. Gagandeep Singh,a resident of Sector 25,and Prakash,a resident of Balongi,Mohali,were arrested from Sector 24 while they were indulging in gambling. The police recovered Rs 5,200 from Gagandeep and Rs 4,525 from Parkash. In a separate case,police arrested Lokinder,a resident of Sector 25,while gambling and recovered Rs 3,470 from him. A case under the Gambling Act has been registered against the accused. All the accused were later released on bail. On Sunday,Javed,a resident of Colony No 4,was arrested near Samparak Center,Industrial Area,under charges of gambling. The police recovered Rs 2,920 from his possession.
CM Hooda inaugurates blood transfusion meet
Chandigarh: The 36th Annual National Conference of the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology,jointly organised by the departments of Transfusion Medicine PGI and GMCH 32,and the Haryana chapter ISBTI,was inaugurated on Sunday at Inderdhanush Auditorium,Sector 5,Panchkula. Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda inaugurated the conference where more than 1,500 delegates from all over the country are participating.
Chhath Puja: Kharna to start today
Chandigarh: Purvanchal Welfare Association held a meeting on Sunday to discuss the preparations of Chhath Puja. The fast for the worship started today. Kharna will be held on Monday after which the fast will continue without water. Around one lakh devotees are expected to visit the lake for the puja.
