CTU auctions 27 condemned buses,earns Rs 55.65 lakh
Chandigarh:The Chandigarh Transport Undertaking auctioned 27 condemned buses,fetching Rs 55.65 lakh. The buses were of 2000-01 model and had outlived their life. The auction committee comprised general manager,depot number I and II,assistant controller (F&A)-I & II and a representative of the Chandigarh Administration. With the auction of these buses,which was videotaped,a large amount of space occupied by them has been cleared where the existing fleet of CTU can be parked. The auction of the remaining buses would be held in the coming days.
MCM DAV holds drug awareness drive
Chandigarh:The Sociology Department of MCM DAV College for Women,Chandigarh,organized a Drug Abuse Awareness Drive today. The event received an overwhelming response from students. Kastoori,a documentary directed and produced by Renu Khanna was screened portraying various aspects of drug addiction and was followed by an interactive session with the students.
PU prof selected for INS Award
Chandigarh:HN Hans,an Emeritus Professor at Panjab University,Chandigarh,has been selected for the INS Outstanding Service Award for the year 2011 by the Indian Nuclear Society for his outstanding contribution in the field of Nuclear Science education. The award carries a cash award of Rs one lakh and a citation. Professor Hans is credited with setting up the first Cyclotron at Panjab University Campus in the 1970s.
Certificates for sewing course given
Chandigarh:The tailoring and embroidery centre run by Sant Nirankari Charitable Foundation,Chandigarh,distributed certificates to the candidates who successfully completed the one year sewing course. The foundation imparts training to needy women in tailoring and embroidery for a period of one year,free of cost.
PU Dept celebrates Mahatmas birthday
Chandigarh:On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti,the Department of Gandhian Studies,Panjab University,is going to organize a Special Public Lecture on Principles and Teachings of Mahatma Gandhi in the Present Context by Jagannath Pahadia,the Governor of Haryana,at Gandhi Bhawan.
