Bail plea of Dr Krishan in kidney racket case to be heard on July 13

Panchkula: The CBI court will hear Dr Krishan Kumar’s bail and Jagdish’s interim bail on July 13 in the kidney racket case. Amit,his brother Jeewan,Dr Krishan Kumar,lab technician Manoj,middle man Giyasuddin,Dr Upinder and middle man Jagdish were present in the court. Meanwhile,a supplementary charge sheet mentioning two more accused – Yashpal and Mohd Shahid has been filed in the court. The CBI court is also awaiting the order,from the Punjab and Haryana High Court regarding modification of its earlier judgment,for which the CBI had filed an application. On May 9,2010,the High Court had further given directions to Special Judge,Panchkula,that he ”shall conduct the trial on day-to-day basis till the statements of all the alleged victims/donors are recorded”. As the accused had been in jail for three years,the HC had asked to consider their bail applications after recording their statements.

Three staffers of immigration firm held,owner absconding

MOHALI: Three staffers of a private immigration firm based in Sector 70 here were arrested while its owner is still absconding in a case of immigration fraud,the police said on Thursday. The case pertained to duping Jagjit Singh,a resident of Shahwala village in Ferozepur district,of Rs 10.3 lakh on the pretext of immigrating him abroad. In his complaint,Singh told the police that the immigration firm had sought Rs 10.3 lakh from him for sending him to Canada. As per the deal,he had paid Rs 1.3 lakh advance with the passport on June 15 and on July 5 when he was given back his passport with the visa to visit Canada,he paid the remaining amount of Rs 9 lakh. “But on visiting the Canadian Embassy,I was shocked to find that the visa issued to me by the immigration firm was fake and did not exist anywhere in the Embassy’s record,” he alleged. The police have arrested Tamanna,Taranjit Singh Kohli and Vikram Jaiswal under Sections 420,465,467,468,471 and 120-B of the IPC and Section 24 of the Immigration Act,1999,while the firm owner Neena Sharma is still on the run,the police added.

Witnesses,IOs fail to appear for deposition

Panchkula: Five people,of which two are involved in the infamous Rana Hospital dacoity case,were acquitted on Thursday in three theft cases as neither the witnesses nor the Investigative Officers (IOs) bothered to depose before the court. Yashpal,Shahnawaz,Neeraj,Satish and Dharamvir were facing three cases related to Section 380 for stealing cash,jewellery and LCDs. All were acquitted as no witness appeared in the cases. Only the complainant appeared. “No recovery was made from them. Even the Investigative Officers in the cases did not appear before the court,” said Manbir Singh Rathi,counsel for the accused. Meanwhile,Yashpal and Shahnawaz are also involved in the dacoity at Rana Hospital,which took place on June 3,2010 at Kalka. The accused had tied Dr Randhir Singh Rana,broke open the locker and decamped with Rs 1 lakh in cash and jewellery worth of around Rs 20 lakh. Charges under 395 (dacoity),342 (wrongful confinement),401 (belonging to gang of thieves),412 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the IPC and sections of the Arms Act have already been framed against both of the accused.

Civic panel to inspect Dadumajra garbage

Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation will form a committee to inspect the garbage being dumped at the Dadumajra dumping ground. CCTV cameras will also be installed to keep a check on unauthorised dumping of garbage. The decisions were taken at a meeting held on Thursday to assess the functioning of the Garbage Processing Plant and the dumping ground. The meeting was convened after a number of protests were held at Dadumajra. The residents complained about the dumping ground filling up at a fast pace and the problems being created due to this. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Mayor Ravinder Pal Singh and was attended by Municipal Commissioner Prerna Puri,area councillor Kamlesh and other officials. The problems in respect of dumping ground were pointed out by the MC officials and the difficulties of the residents of Dadumajra Colony were put forth by Kamlesh. Representatives of J P Associates who are operating the plant stated that they would install more machinery by making provision of an additional Hot Air Generator. It was decided that to ensure effective supervision,the garbage inspection system would be strengthened.

Rotary Club gets new president

Chandigarh: Mohinder Pal Gupta was formally installed as the president of the Rotary Club of Chandigarh at a function organized in CII here on Thursday. The collar of leadership was handed over to him by his immediate predecessor Sandeep Luthra in the presence of Anil Kaushik,IPS,Director General of Police Prison,Punjab,who was the chief guest on the occasion. Gupta said that the Club would continue to combat the menace of drug addiction among youth and would be adopting Kaimbwala village for an all round development by setting up a Rotary Community Corps to engage the community.
