Bank employee among 2 booked for fraud
MOHALI: A BANK employee was among two persons who were booked on the charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust,the police said on Sunday.
Paramjit Singh of Phase IX here accused Kulbir Singh of Phase I here,who worked at a nationalised bank,of duping him of Rs 14 lakh on the pretext of providing him a house. In his complaint,Paramjit alleged that Kulbir took money from him in 2004 on the promise of providing him a house in his cooperative house building society or returning the money with interest. He accused Kulbir of neither providing him a house nor returning his money back as yet. The police have booked Kulbir under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC. However,he was not yet arrested.
In another case,Darshan Singh of Phase XI here accused Devinder Kaur also of Phase XI here of duping him of Rs 2 lakh in lieu of a property deal. In his complaint,Darshan alleged that he had entered into an agreement with Devinder for purchasing a house for Rs 8 lakh and he had paid Rs 2 lakh as earnest money. After she failed to get the registration deed executed on the committed date,I realised that the said plot was already cancelled by the allotment agency, he alleged. The police booked Devinder under Section 420 of the IPC but no arrest was made as yet.
Car,valuables stolen from locked house
MOHALI: A Honda City car and other valuables worth several lakhs of rupees were reported stolen from a locked house in Sector 70 here,the police said.Kulbir Singh complained to the police that he had gone with his family on June 10 after leaving his house locked and when he returned on Sunday,he was shocked to find his daughters Honda City car missing from the courtyard while household articles and other valuables stolen from inside the house.The police have registered a case of theft and have begun investigations.
Owner,associate booked for abduction
MOHALI: The police have booked a factory owner and one of his associates on the charges of abduction and luring a minor girl for marriage. In his police complaint,Hardev Singh of Lalru reported that his daughter Pinki,aged 14,worked with a private firm,the owner of which retrenched her on June 7. Next day she had gone to the factory owner to get her dues but is yet to return, alleged Singh,while adding that the factory owner along with his associate had abducted and lured his daughter for marriage. The police have registered a case under Sections 363 and 366-A of the IPC against Umesh and Pawan Majal. No arrests have been made.
Construction work disrupts water supply
CHANDIGARH:The residents of Sector 42 faced severe water shortage over the past few days. The water supply was affected reportedly after a pipeline was damaged due to an ongoing construction work. The residents had to depend on tankers for water supply.A resident of Sector 42 said that water for daily needs was also not being supplied. They were being forced to fill buckets when tankers came to the area. This was a problem especially for the residents residing on the upper storeys as they were forced to carry buckets of water.The Municipal Corporation repaired the pipeline late in the evening today after which water started trickling into the houses. An official of the civic body said that the pipeline was repaired today and water supply was restored. It would normalize within a day.
