Taxi driver booked for abetting wife’s suicide

Chandigarh: The UT Police have registered a case against a taxi driver for allegedly abetting his wife’s suicide. The body of 28-year-old Jyoti — a resident of Palsora in Chandigarh — was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her house on Wednesday night,said police. Jyoti’s daughter found her hanging. “Jyoti was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Mohali where she was declared dead on arrival,said an officer. Jyoti’s mother Santa Devi have lodged a complaint against her son-in-law Mandeep alias Sunny. “He (Sunny)compelled her to commit suicide,” she claimed. Later,the police registered a case into the incident. Both marrying for the second time,Sunny and Jyoti got married in 2008. Both had one child from their previous marriages.

Intricate surgery performed in Mohali

Mohali: Fortis Hospital on Thursday announced that it has successfully conducted a highly intricate and complicated surgery on Jatinder Kaur,who had a large abdominal wall hernia with her intestines entangled in the protruding mass. The sexagenarian had been operated unsuccessfully four times in the last few years. The successful surgery was conducted by Dr Atul S Joshi,consultant in surgery and minimal access at Fortis. Joshi said: “A few years ago,Kaur was admitted in another hospital for a gynecological procedure,which apparently did not go as desired. Her intestines got injured during the surgery,which needed an emergency operation. However,the second procedure failed as well and she started getting fecal matter from her main wound. She needed another surgery to rectify the defect in the intestine,which failed yet again. She was hospitalised for well over three months.”

Two robbers arrested

Chandigarh: Haryana Police arrested two robbers within a few hours after they committed a theft at knife point in the Ambala Cantt. area. A police spokesman said the arrested had been identified as Sanjay and Hantel — both residents of Ambala Cantt. A cellphone,a knife used in the incident and Rs 700 in cash have been recovered from their possession. The duo had appeared before a court on Wednesday in connection to another case. After leaving the court,they committed the theft.
