In a sign of reprieve for Bubli Brar,daughter of former Punjab Chief Minister Harcharan Singh Brar,the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday put a conditional stay on the auctioning of assets of Telephone Cables Ltd (TCL),a company floated by Bubli Brar.

DT Cinemas is first 3D multiplex

Come February 18 and the Chandigarh cine-goer is going to be treated to a memorable cinematic experience. After gripping the country with 3D fever,Avatar and The Nutcracker will finally be screened in their true form. This Friday,February 18th,will go down in the cinematic history of the city as the 3D day for DT Cinemas will open its first 3D halls with the screening of Avatar-Special 3D Edition and Nutcracker 3D.

MCM DAV College girls shine

Students of MCM DAV College for Women,Sector 36,Harsumeet Kaur and Rupal Shergill won respectively the first prize in the KK Grover inter-college declamation contest and third prize in the AC Bali declamation contest organised by the PU Punjabi Department.

Farmer booked

Agriculturist Waqil Chand was booked on the charge of endangering the lives of students and faculty members of a government school in Dera Bassi,the police said here on Wednesday. Dera Bassi Block Education Officer Pritpal Singh reported to the police that the accused had laid the pipes to irrigate his fields through the school ground,which has posed a danger to the building in which students and faculty members remain during school hours.

9-day police custody for fraud

The Panchkula district courts remanded Manish Sehajpal to nine-day police custody for allegedly duping a Chandigarh woman. Meenu Jain had levelled charges in June 2010 that Nikhil,Mukesh,Vivek and Manish showed her a property in Sector 2,Panchkula,and took Rs 58 lakh from her. When she asked for registry of the property,they fled. Sehajpal was arrested on Tuesday night.

216 bag Brain Quest scholarships

Amandeep Kaur of Guru Gobind Singh Senior Secondary School,Kurali,Jarnail Singh of Government Senior Secondary School,Kharar,and Jaswinder Kaur of GGSSS,Kurali,bagged the first three positions to get 100 per cent scholarship for pursuing their undergraduate courses of BBA,BCA and BSc (IT) respectively at SAS Group of Institutes. Nine other students from Government School,Lalru,GGSSS,Kurali and GSSS,Teera,bagged 50 per cent scholarships while 23 students from other schools bagged 35 per cent scholarships for these courses. More than 180 students secured 15 per cent scholarships by clearing Brain Quest,an entrance exam recently conducted in over 50 government senior secondary schools of the region. SAS Group Campus Director N K Maheshwari announced the results in the college campus here on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion,Dr Maheshwari said that students of government schools have clearly proved that they are no inferior to private school students.

Protest rally by PunCom staff

Hundreds of Punjab Communications Limited (PunCom) employees took out a massive protest rally against what they alleged as a bid to disinvest the company which they claimed was earning profits. Under the banner of PunCom Employees Joint Action Committee (JAC),the protesters walked from the company’s gate in Industrial Area to Phase 3B1 here this evening,where local MLA Balbir Sidhu joined them and extended full support from the Congress party to the employees.
