A teenager girl student was abducted from Janata Colony in Nayagaon,close to Chandigarh,in Mohali,the police said.

13-year-old girl ‘abducted’
Mohali:
A teenager girl student was abducted from Janata Colony in Nayagaon,close to Chandigarh,in Mohali,the police said here on Friday. Nayagaon resident Sham Lal reported to the police that his 13-year-old daughter had gone to attend her stitching and embroidery class on December 7 but did not return back home. “I have come to know that one of our neighbours Raju has taken away my daughter with the lure of marriage,” he alleged. The police have booked Raju for abduction and luring a minor for marriage under Sections 363,366-A and 368 of the IPC and launched a hunt to trace the abducted girl and her alleged abductor.

Car mows down cyclist
Mohali:
A cyclist Brij Narayan of Udham Singh Colony in Industrial Area,Phase VII,here was mowed down by a car near the Semi-Conductor Limited (SCL) light point here late last evening,the police said here today. The deceased was peddling back home. When he approached SCL chowk,a speeding unknown car ran over him and sped away. He was rushed to Chandigarh PGIMER,where he succumbed to his injuries. The police have registered a case of causing death by rash and negligent driving against the unknown car driver.

Conference on corporate progress held
Ambala:
A conference on corporate progress,National Conference,Vision-2020,was organised at Galaxy Global Group of Institutions here on Friday. The delegates discussed future models of corporate management in the national context. The function was inaugurated by Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister,Haryana,Dr K.K. Khandelwal. About 20 professors as resource persons and 200 delegates from reputed universities and institutes across the country participated in the conference.

Industrial training for Army men
Ambala:
Army Industrial Training Centre (AITC),Ambala Cantt,is imparting training to JCOs/OR of Army and their male wards to prepare them for jobs in civil industries. Recently,Lt. Gen Anil Chait GOC,Kharga Corps,visited AITC and praised the quality of training and efforts towards ensuring 100 per cent placement of the candidates. The GOC exhorted the staff to incorporate maximum technological upgrades in the market and publicise this excellent facility available to Army men. Soldiers desirous of seeking admission are required to apply before January 31,2011 and admission forms have been sent to all formations Headquarters.

SBoP revises rates on domestic term deposits
Patiala:
The State Bank of Patiala has raised its term deposit rates by 50 bps to 150 bps from December 10 for existing and new customers. The interest rate for 555 and 999 days stands increased to 8.75 per cent,while that for 15 to 45 days is 4.5 per cent and for 46 to 90 days is 5.5 per cent. The increased interest rate for 91 to 180 days is 6.25 per cent per annum,181 days to less than one year is 7.5 per cent and for deposits of one year to 554 days and 556 days to two years,the bank is offering 8 per cent per annum interest. Senior citizens will be given additional rate of interest at the rate of 0.50 per cent for a period of one year and above. A statement from the bank said interest on SBP Tax Saving Scheme had also been revised at 8.5 per cent per annum.

UN rights system a sham: Sikh bodies

On International Day for Human Rights which was marked on Friday,Sikhs called the United Nations Human Rights system a “sham”,terming it “fragile,slow and toothless”. They deplored the UNO’s observed silence on systematic and undeterred persecution of minorities in France,Pakistan and a number of other countries. Students of Gursikh Phulwari Public School,Patiala,at a protest,flayed the inaction of the United Nations’ Human Rights System on the Sikh Nation Organisation’s petitions to the UNO against the ‘Ban on Religious Symbols and Turban in France’ since 2004 and ‘conversion of minorities’ under ‘Shariah Nizam-e-Adl 2009’ enacted by Pakistan.

Nursing workshop at PGI
Chandigarh:
A 10-day workshop on trends in cardiac nursing: Exploring the past and looking into the future was inaugurated at the National Institute of Nursing Education,PGIMER,Chandigarh,on Friday by Officer-In-Charge and Programme Coordinator Meenu Singh. Participants from Punjab,Haryana and Chandigarh are attending the workshop. “Such workshops will update the knowledge and skills of nurses and improve the quality of nursing care,” informed Singh. During the workshop,the nurses will be given training and awareness on trends in cardiac nursing,re-demonstrate assessment of the cardiovascular system and CPR,enlist trends in monitoring,ECG,Echocardiography and TMT,he said.

SBI gifts van to 6 Battalion of Sikh Regiment
Chandigarh:
The State Bank of India (SBI),Chandigarh Circle,on Friday handed over the keys of a Tata Magic Ace Van to the commanding officer of the 6 Battalion of the Sikh Regiment to salute the saviours of Poonch. The keys were handed by SBI Chief General Manager S K Segal to Col Shailesh Sati,the commanding officer of the 6 battalion of the Sikh regiment. The regiment is celebrating the ‘ Defence of Poonch”,which is in consonance with the achievement of India’s victory in the 1971 wat with Pakistan.
