Punjabi University alumni relive old times
Patiala: Punjabi University Alumni Association organised its 5th annual meet on Saturday,where the alumni of the university got together to relive the moments spent on the campus. Presided over by Vice- Chancellor Jaspal Singh,the event was a warm get together that was garnished with singing and comedy performances of university students. The evening was culturally co-ordinated by the Youth Welfare Department. Welcoming the alumni,the V-C said that he was happy to see that so many of old students are still in touch with their alma mater. He said that we want old students to maintain,improve and increase their association with the university. Many successful alumni of the university like Saraswati Award winner poet Surjeet Patar,Comedian Rana Ranbir and principals and teachers of various colleges were present on the occasion.
National integration camp concludes
Patiala: A five-day national integration camp organised by the Northern Regional Language Centre in Patiala in collaboration with Guru Teg Bahudur Chair of National Integration Punjabi University,Patiala,concluded today.
As many as 61 delegates from various states including Karnataka,Rajasthan and Himachal Pardesh,Haryana and Punjab participated in the camp. Some delegates were trained in Punjabi language at this centre and now they are teaching Punjabi language to their students in their native states. C R Modgil,Director,Punjabi Sahit Academy,Haryana was chief Guest on the Veledictory Function. While Distributing the certificates to the participants he said that Punjabi language is emerging as a dominating language in India. It can be used as a mode of communal and regional co existence. He appraised the role of NRLC in spreading and modernizing Punjabi Language.
Five-day theatre festival at Punjabi University
Patiala: The North Zone Cultural Centre is organising a five-day Theatre Festival at Kala Bhawan in Punjabi University,Patiala from November 15 to 19,in collaboration with the Department of Theatre and Television,Punjabi University,Patiala. The festival is aimed at promoting,preserving and innovating arts of the north region,especially the cultural traditions of Punjab. During the five-day festival,Massage directed by Harbansh Singh & enacted by Rakesh Bedi would be staged on November 15,while Aur Ek Sacch written & directed by Aziz Quraishi will be staged on November 16 and Gaddi Charan Di Kaahal Bari Si directed by Kewal Dhaliwal on november 17,besides Naa Jaavin Baroohon Paar a production by Deptt. of Theatre & Television,Punjabi University,Patiala with assistance of NZCC will be staged on November 18 and Rashtriya Bhrashtachar Adhiveshan will be staged at 6 p m on on November 19.
Changing landscapes of Indian retail discussed
Patiala: A two-day UGC sponsored national seminar on Changing Landscape of Indian Retail Sector: Present and the Future Vision,organised by the Punjabi Universitys School of Management Studies concluded on Sunday.
The chief guest at the valedictory function,Rajinder Bhandari,Deputy Chairman,Punjab Planning Commission,said India had retained its position as the most attractive emerging market in the retail sector across the world. Growing consumerism would be a key drive for organised retail in India as a result of which the retail giants of the world are striving hard to gain entry into the Indian retail market.
