Dr SK Jindal,Head,Department of Pulmonary Medicine,Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research,Chandigarh has been awarded the Life-Time Achievement Award of the Indian Chest Society.

PGI doc felicitated for life-time achievement

Chandigarh: Dr SK Jindal,Head,Department of Pulmonary Medicine,Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research,Chandigarh has been awarded the Life-Time Achievement Award of the Indian Chest Society. He has been recognised for his extraordinary achievements in Respiratory Medicine in the field of pulmonary sciences and is the first recipient of the award. Dr Jindal was recently honoured with international recognition for the Outstanding Educator Award for scientific research by the American Thoracic Society.

Tree plantation drive held

Chandigarh: The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of the MCM DAV College for Women,Sector 36 organised a plantation drive during the ‘Van Mahotsav’ in the college campus to sensitise students about the potential threat of global warming. In a programme which saw an enthusiastic participation from the NSS volunteers,vows were taken to nurture the saplings and preserve the peaceful greenery. The Inspector General of UT Police was the chief guest at the occasion. The chief guest,Principal,faculty members and NSS volunteers planted more than 100 saplings.

Voters’ list correction between Oct 4 and 24

Sas Nagar: With the Vidhan Sabha elections slated to be held next year,the voter list in the district will revised between October 4 and October 24. Deputy Commissioner(DC),Mohali,Varun Roojam on Monday said the draft of the voter’s list will be out on October 4. Awareness camps will be organised in various places to encourage young voters to get themselves registered. The authorities are taking the support of resident welfare associations,gram sabhas and social welfare organisations to educate the youth. Agents will be available at booths between 9-16 October and people can contact them for any correction that is to made in their votes. The new voter list will be out on 2 January,2012.

HC issues notices to Administration

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court issued notices to Chandigarh Administration and the Bar Association of Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking directions to come up with food court and hygienic conditions on the HC premises. The notices were a result of an application that had been filed by advocate Jasbir Singh Chahal,former president of High Court Bar Association.

Mentally challenged children get training

Chandigarh: The children and instructors of the ‘ Aashadeep’ Regional Institute of Mentally Handicapped,Sector 31-C,were provided candle making vocational training by the State Legal Services Authority,U T,Chandigarh in association with Samarpan,an NGO on Monday.
