BJP national secretary to visit Chandigarh CHANDIGARH: Bharatiya Janata Party National Secretary and Chandigarh party affairs incharge Saroj Pandey is going to visit Chandigarh on a two-day tour. During her visit,she will meet party activists at various levels. On July 13,she will hold a meeting with office bearers of the Chandigarh unit,while the next day she will attend meetings of the core committee,districts and mandal presidents. Meanwhile,Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha,the youth wing of BJP has started preparations for the programme to gherao the Parliament on August 9. The members have started mobilising youngsters for the purpose. The programme is being organised against price rise,corruption and lack of governance. Ranjit Singh murder case: Cops depose PANCHKULA: Two policemen deposed before a CBI special judge in the Ranjit Singh murder case today. According to CBI counsel HPS Verma,the court recorded the statements of constable Sanjay Kumar,who had deposited the pistol with was used to fire at Ranjit Singh,at the Forensic Science Laboratory,Madhuban. The statement of ASI Dinesh Kumar was also recorded,who had recovered the motorcycle of the deceased and also collected blood stained soil from the crime spot. Head of Dera Sacha Sauda,Gurmeet Ram Rahim is a co-accused in the case along with Jasbir,Indersen,Avtaar,Krishan Kumar and Sabdil. Jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh stolen PANCHKULA: In a theft at a Sector 15 house,thieves decamped with jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh and cash of about Rs 15,000. Parmod Kumar,who retired from a bank,and his wife who works as a teacher in Chandigarh left their house at 11 am after locking all gates. When they came back at about 4 pm,they found the main gate and door locked from inside. When he entered the house through the window,he found the valuables things stolen. A case has been registered under Section 454 (house breaking) and Section 380 (for theft) of IPC at a Sector 15-based police post. Panchkula woman burnt in accident PANCHKULA: In an accident in Sector 14,a woman got suffered 45 per cent burns. As per the statement of the victim,Bhawna (38),she went inside her kitchen around 11 am to prepare tea. The burner did not start for some time. After a while,when she lighted the match stick again,she was covered in flames. Neighbours and family members helped her extinguish the fire after she ran outside for help. She was taken to General Hospital,Sector 6,from where she was referred to PGI after preliminary treatment. At the time of incident,Bhawnas husband was at his shop. In a statement to the police,the victim had called the burns an accident. Chetna Manch holds meeting on corruption CHANDIGARH: Organising a convention on Rampant Corruption in the Indian Society and Lok Pal Bill held in Sri Harkirshan Public High Model School in Sector 40 on Sunday,members of Chetna Manch,Chandigarh traced the history of the Lokpal Bill. Secretary of the Manch,SK Khosla said,UPA government is not serious enough to bring this legislation to the Parliament. The rich are pocketing the earning share of the workers,peasants and labourers.
