Teachers union to hold meeting on Aug 18
CHANDIGARH: The members of the state committee of Government Teachers Union have decided to hold a conference on August 18 to deliberate over the UT Education system and the position of the teachers. A delegation of members of the union will also be sent to meet the UT Education Secretary,VK Singh to discuss the long pending demands of the union relating to the promotion of UT cadre teachers.
PEC orientation programme
CHANDIGARH: The two-day orientation programme of the newly admitted students in PEC University of Technology began on Tuesday. Dr Manoj Datta motivated the students by highlighting the significant role that the college would play in their lives. He further emphasized on the art of discipline with fun that one needs to balance in life,exemplifying his personal experiences. There was campus tour for the new students. The freshers were then introduced to HODs and faculty members of their respective departments. The first day of the orientation concluded with registration of the students.
Faculty development talk at Sec 20 college
CHANDIGARH: Dr KS Bindra,Department of Physics delivered a talk during the second day of two-day faculty development programme being organised at Government College of Education in Sector 20. Bindra said to encourage the process of life long learning,parents should focus on the first three years of their childrens life when learning is natural,self paced and self corrected. He also reiterated the need for affectionate,affirming and trustful environment for learning. Instead of child centered learning,it should be child self directed learning.
Lecture at Sector 11 girls college
CHANDIGARH: The Cultural Society of Post-Graduate Government College for Girls in Sector 11organised a lecture-cum-demonstration by Salil Bhatt today,under the guidance of Principal Achila Dogra and Dr Anita Kaushal,Dean College. Addressing the faculty members and students, Binu Dogra welcomed the resource person,Salil Bhatt,Saatvik Veena maestro (son of legendary Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt). The morning raga-Ahir Bhairav was played beautifully,which mesmerized the audience. The function concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Amita Sharma,member-incharge of the cultural society.
St Anne school faculty member silver jubilee
CHANDIGARH: St Annes Convent School in Sector 32 celebrated the silver jubilee of the service of its faculty member Reena Godura in the school auditorium on Tuesday. The students put up a dance performance and sang Hymns and songs on the occasion. Reena completed 25 years of service to the institution.
Mount Carmel School celebrates Mahotsav
CHANDIGARH: The Eco Club at Mount Carmel School in Sector 47 celebrated ‘Van Mahotsav on Monday. The NSS students and the Eco Club members of the school planted many saplings in the campus. The Eco Club also conducted a Quiz and Painting Competition on the occasion.
Bus catches fires,all passengers safe
SAS NAGAR: A moving bus caught fire near Desu Majra in Mohali on Tuesday. An air-conditioned bus of Taj Travel agency caught fire while on its way to travelling from Chandigarh to Pathankot. The occupants of the bus were unaware of the fire which had engulfed the back portion of the bus. All passengers escaped unhurt. The air conditioner which was located at the back of the bus,caught fire. A passerby informed the driver about the fire who in turn informed the fire department. Assistant Fire Officer Devinder Singh Dogra said, We received a call from the bus driver Gurnam Singh and immediately rushed two fire vehicles to the spot. All the passengers are safe,. Though the fire was doused,the bus could not continue its journey .
