Father dies,son injured in road accident

CHANDIGARH: Nishan Singh (50),a driver with the Mohali DRPO died and his 18-year-old son sustained serious injuries when a speeding Scorpio hit their motorcycle at the Mandi Board crossing near Phase XI in Mohali on Sunday. The father-son duo were heading home from a local hospital,when the SUV ran over them and fled. While Nishan was declared dead on arrival,his son is in a critical condition at a local hospital.

Two commit suicide in Morni

Panchkula: A woman and her brother-in-law allegedly committed suicide in Morni. Their bodies were found hanging from a tree on Saturday night. Rajni and Mahender,residents of Gajhan village,had been missing for the last two days. “The bodies did not bear any injury marks. Ruling out honour killing,Inspector Raj Kumar of the Panchkula police said: “There is nothing suspicious.”

350 donate blood at camp

Chandigarh: Around 350 people,including 50 women,donated blood in the 35th blood donation camp,organised by Sri Sathya Savi Seva Organisation and sponsored by the State Bank of India (SBI),on Sunday. The camp was inaugurated by Deepti Sahai,General Manager,SBI (Chandigarh circle). A medical team from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research conducted the camp.

NGO donates ambulance to PGIMER

Chandigarh: A Chandigarh based NGO,Life Line,donated another ambulance to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER),on Sunday. This is the ninth ambulance donated by Life Line to PGIMER. Life Line’s patron and senior president Sat Paul Gupta said the ambulance will help PGIMER improve its medical transport facility. The NGO,which has been active for nearly 11 years,helps poor patients in the emergency ward of PGIMER.

PU foreign students meet Afghan teachers

CHANDIGARH: Yuvsatta and the Department of Gandhian Studies,Panjab University,with support from the Regional Institute of English (RIE),organised an interaction between foreign students studying in PU and 25 English teachers from Afghanistan,who are undergoing a training at RIE. Nearly 75 students from Yemen,Ethiopia,Bhutan,Nepal,Kenya,Sri Lanka,Tajikistan,Iran,Afghanistan and Thailand were present on the occasion.

Students to be sent abroad for project

Chandigarh: The E-max Group of Institutions has entered into a collaboration with the Association Internationale des Etudiants en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales,by which,it will be able to participate in a global exchange programme with over 1,600 universities across the world. The collaboration aims at encouraging students to conduct their live projects in foreign countries during graduation and postgraduation.
