Around 20 new souvenirs out to preserve Le Corbusier’s legacy

Be it the wrist bands for kids,cell-phone covers for youngsters or ceramic plates for women to add to their kitchenware,the Le Corbusier Centre has catered to the demand of various groups of people in the city.

Going through the array of items displayed,one cannot miss observing the plastic soap dispenser with the designs that remind one about Nek Chand’s gift to the city,the Rock Garden. Then,there is the colourful laptop cover priced at Rs 980. Despite being priced as the highest item on the list,it managed to attract some youngsters to the centre on the first day itself.

With the cost ranging from Rs 30 to Rs 980,the souvenirs this time include not only the customary coffee cups,but also small glasses for tequila shots.

Keeping in sync with the techno-savvy generation,the management has brought out colourful covers for cell-phones,i-Pods,i-Pads and laptops. The phone covers have been priced at Rs 160 while the i-Pad covers cost around Rs 485.

Among the new souvenirs are small glasses for tequila shots,which surprise the visitors as their eyes at first search for coffee mugs. The customary coffee cups are also part of the list and are in relatively new designs. There are about 13 coffee mugs,which are available in three different hues: white,black and coloured with prints of various tourist places in Chandigarh. The cost of mugs ranges from Rs 110-180.

The small brown bookmarks shaped in the form of the symbolic open hand of Chandigarh also manage to capture the attention of the visitors. Apart from the regular ceramic plates,unbreakable plastic plates have also been launched,which are available in various sizes,with the cost ranging from Rs 320-600.

In keeping with the trend of promoting clothing merchandise,T-shirts and sweat-shirts have also been launched for the tourists who want to take the memories of visiting the centre back home.

Children have not been left out of the target base,as a piggy bank has also been added to the list of new souvenirs. Pencils with caps for children,metallic key chains are some of the other souvenirs that attract the attention of the kids.

Then there is the black and white photo-frame which captures the French architect,Le Corbusier,in deep thought.
