Army holds award function

The General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Command,Lieutenant General S R Ghosh today honoured Subedar Sovan Singh of Garhwal Rifles as the best Junior Commissioned Officer and Havaldar Mehar Singh of Artillery as best Non Commissioned Officer for 2011.

The General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Western Command,Lieutenant General S R Ghosh today honoured Subedar Sovan Singh of Garhwal Rifles as the best Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and Havaldar Mehar Singh of Artillery as best Non Commissioned Officer (NCO) for 2011.

The two were honoured at a function in Chandimandir-based Western Command where the duo were also awarded Army Commanders Commendation Cards and Western Command Silver Trophies.

Naib Subedar Sahib Singh of 14 Punjab stood second and Subedar Hira Singh of 7 Kumaon remained third in JCO category.

Havaldar Pitambar Thapa remained second and Havaldar Pramod Kumar third,in NCO category. There were 20 participants including 10 JCOs and 10 NCOs from all over the Command.

Congratulating the award winners,GOC-in-C,Ghosh said the practice to select the best JCOs and NCOs of the year has been started last year to motivate and encourage them on the pattern of American Army for NCOs there.

The photographs of the winner Junior Commissioned Officer and NCO will be displayed in all the Unit lines under the Western Command throughout the year to enable all ranks to know about it and get motivated, he said.
