Another step forward

The Nari Niketan in Sector 26 has been her home for nine years,but Sonika was happy to move on. On Thursday,the 21-year-old was married to Amandeep.

The Department of Social Welfare,Chandigarh Administration,had been looking for a suitable match for her for some time. In May 2009 it had published a matrimonial advertisement in a leading daily and after receiving several responses,Amandeep was considered most suited. He works as a peon in a government office and lives in Sector-23.

Sonika,who had lost her way did not remember her parents and home and was brought to Nari Niketan in 1999. She was provided informal education by the department at the home which has been abode since then. The marriage was solemnized at the Arya Samaj Mandir in Sector-7,and the department staff along with NGOs including Women and Child Care Society,Sai Tara Umat Foundation,Don Bosco Navjeevan,Arya Samaj Istri Sabha,Pritpal Singh,Honorary Director and Manju Bhalla solemnized this marriage.

Company secretary Sudhir Jain did the kanyadan.
