Riding high on Kuwar Pathak’s and Abhishek Sharma’s knock of 98 runs and 88 runs respectively,Amritsar declared their first innings at 369 for 8 runs in 83.4 overs on the first day of the U-16 Punjab Inter-District cricket tournament match against Kapurthala being played for ML Markan Trophy at the Gandhi Grounds in Amritsar. Batting first on a placid track,Amritsar batsmen dominated the proceedings from the start. Opener Abhishek Sharma was in total control during his knock of 88 runs. One down batsman Kuwar Pathak also shone with the bat and hammered 98 runs to propel his side. Abhishek and Kuwar hit 13 boundaries each. From the Kapurthala team,Mamik bowled well to bag three wickets,giving away 61 runs in 23 overs. Meanwhile,Prabsimran Pal,Jagdeep Singh,Chirag Malhotra and Tarandeep Singh grabbed one wicket each.
Ropar bowlers dominate
In the Group A match played at the Dhruv Pandove Stadium in Patiala,Ropar tightened noose around Patiala,bundling the hosts for 276 runs in 84.3 overs. For Ropar,medium-pacer Resham Sharma emerged as the most successful wicket-taker as he grabbed four wickets. He set the tone for the Ropar team. Apart from him,P Singh also bowled well to scalp three wickets. The Patiala batsmen had no answer to Ropar bowlers exploits. For Patiala,PB Rai scored the highest 63 runs while P Singh smashed 49 runs. In reply to the total,Ropar were 7 for one in 12 overs.
