Amarinder reasserts his authority as defectors flood Cong

The resentment brewing in the Congress over the induction of turncoats is now brimming over from the top. State party president Captain Amarinder Singhs move to welcome senior vice-presidents of Peoples Party of Punjab into the party has raised hackles of Congress Legislative Party leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal,who has voiced her opposition to tickets for turncoats to the party high command in New Delhi.

Bhattal had rushed to New Delhi to plead the case of loyalist Avtar Brar the sitting Faridkot MLA who who has openly challenged the induction of former Faridkot MLA Kushaldeep Dhillon into the party. To overcome the resistance,Amarinder on Thursday minced no words as to who has greater authority to decide.

Referring to those being inducted into the Congress,he said: We have to think about the party first. Some decisions are taken keeping the larger interest of the party in mind. We have done so to create the right atmosphere. Me and Bhattal are only recommending authority. She may recommend who she wants and I may recommend who I want. But the final call on allotting the tickets is the sole prerogative of the party president Sonia Gandhi and winnablity will be the sole criterion. Let them complain. I have not taken any decision all names have been cleared at the highest level.

On resistance by Avtar Brar,he said that party workers and leaders need not to get upset or feel insecure about their positions. Anybody joining the Congress will obviously strengthen the party and once the party is strong,the workers and leaders automatically get stronger. There is nothing unusual about being part of one group or another. I dont care whether someone belongs to group A,B,C or D as long as he or she is a winning candidate, he added.
