Two days after the Supreme Court ordered Haryana police to identify the beneficiaries in the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) leak case, the state police has got hold of a few mobile phone numbers and recorded conversations that may help unravel the entire racket.

The conversations, now being examined by the Haryana police, purportedly involve some aspirants and the alleged touts. The audio clips show the manner in which deals were being struck for getting a rank in the examination. The audio clips were first procured by a coaching institute teacher in Kota, Rajasthan from some of his students.

“It’s not only in this AIPMT exam that a leak has taken place. Such things have happened in the past, but this time the extent was too big. I got these audio clips from a few of my students, but I cannot reveal their identities as it will create problems for them. The police can easily find out about these touts”, the coaching institute owner told Indian Express on condition of anonymity.

The phone numbers used for these conversations have been withheld because it may compromise further investigations.

Sources have told The Indian Express that Haryana police is in the process of scrutinising call records of 75 mobile phones, out of which 40 SIM cards were procured using fake identities. Police has already arrested a Rohtak resident, Sandeep, for helping the gang involved in the leak case, making him the seventh person to be arrested in the case so far.

“From these 75 mobile phones, data was transmitted to 300 mobile phones operating at different locations during the time the AIPMT examination was being conducted. Data was further transmitted from 280 of these 300 mobile phones using the Bluetooth technology. It is extremely difficult to trace the entire chain of data transmission as it is keeps getting bigger”, a senior Haryana police officer associated with the investigation told The Indian Express.

The Haryana police, however, has not been able to trace the gang’s kingpin and the mastermind of the AIPMT leak case, Roop Singh Dangi. Though the police has arrested six of his accomplices, they are not yet sure about the exact number of Dangi’s associates involved in the conspiracy.

Haryana police had last week written to the police chiefs of at least six states asking them to share information about the people who were arrested before, during or after the AIPMT exam for using unfair means in the examination or on allegations of leaking the question paper.

The states are yet to share that information. The Supreme Court had on Tuesday directed Haryana Police to wrap up its probe by June 03.
