A 40-year-old man allegedly opened fire on the police after his car crashed on the Mohali-Landran-Fatehgarh Sahib road near Jhanjeri village in Mohali late on Thursday night,the police said.
The accused,Surinder Singh,a farmer from Rampur Kalan village near Banur in Patiala district,was arrested under Section 336 of the IPC and later released on bail.
Investigation officer Inspector Vijay Kumar told Newsline: Constable Kulwinder Singh and I rushed to the spot on getting information about a car accident from the Majat police post. But when we tried to inquire about the accident,the car driver pulled out a .32 bore revolver from his trousers and fired a shot in the air.
The next moment,Singh turned the revolver to the policemen and pulled the trigger but missed. Before he could fire another shot,the policemen overpowered him and seized his weapon.
