After being neglected for several years, the UT Administration is in the process of preparing a proposal for completing the monuments in the Capitol Complex. The monuments were designed by creator of the city Le Corbusier. However, these could not be completed and have been in a state of neglect for several years.
The Capitol Complex includes buildings such as the Secretariat,High Court and the Assembly. Besides these, six monuments were to be a part of the complex. Of these, two Geometric Hill and the Martyrs Memorial are incomplete.
The Administration is planning to apply for UNESCO Heritage status for buildings that were designed by Le Corbusier along with five other countries as part of a transnational dossier. Several steps are being taken for that. The Capitol Complex is the most renowned building by Corbusier.
The Administration has also held meetings to discuss the proposal for construction of the Museum of Knowledge, which is to be the fourth building in the Capitol Complex. While the design of the building was prepared by Corbusier, the Administration is in the process of deciding the utility of the building. Several proposals have been mooted.
It is further proposed that a research cell be opened at the Le Corbusier Centre in Sector 19. Since the dossier for UNESCO status has to be prepared, the work for the same will be undertaken. Apart from buildings of Corbusier, the Centre and Leisure Valley are also proposed to be recommended for heritage status.
