Admissions to pre-primary classes start

Some parents visited schools to get forms, only to be told that these would be available online.

The process of admissions to pre-primary classes in city-based private and government schools started on Monday, with the schools putting admission details on their websites and noticeboards. Some parents visited schools to get forms, only to be told that these would be available online.

Following the common admission schedule and the guidelines, all the schools uploaded their admission forms on their websites. The forms can be downloaded for free. This was the reason that on day one of the admissions, the schools saw very few parents clarifying their queries as compared to last year when the parents had to stand in long queues to collect the admission forms.

However, there were many parents who had to return empty-handed after visiting the schools. There was no provision for admission forms at the school office and the parents were asked to download the forms from the school’s website. The five-page admission forms are available in a PDF format on the websites of the schools.

The four missionary schools — St Anne’s Convent School,Carmel Convent School,Sacred Heart and St John’s —also started their admission process by uploading the forms on the websites but these schools have fixed the last date for submission of the forms as December 19,as the schools are occupied with annual functions and other events. As per the schedule of the education department, the last date for submission of the forms is December 10 in other schools. While at Saupin’s School,Sector 32,the last date for submission of the forms will be December 12,the results will be declared by January 15.

At the missionary schools, preference will be given to the Catholics/Christians,siblings,wards of alumni and the wards of the teachers/staff. However, the websites of the schools stress the fact that preferences will not guarantee admission.

At Saupin’s School,Sector 32,applicants of the Christian community, wards of the teachers or the staff, siblings of the present students and those residing nearest the school will be given preference. Also, the school has reserved nine seats under the management quota. Vivek High School follows a point system where preference will be given to the students of Sikh community while 10 points are reserved for the siblings of the students already studying, children of the staff and alumni of the school respectively. Five points are also reserved for the neighbourhood residents.

Ryan International School,Sector 49,and New Public School,Sector 18,are yet to upload the admission details on their websites while St Kabir Public School has decided to discontinue with their admissions to pre-nursery classes as they will be starting with class XI from the next session onwards.
