Ace rallyist Suresh Rana leads the race

When Suresh Rana is behind the wheels driving his favourite mean machines,the other drivers take a backseat,and let the champion rallyist show his skills. The same set of skills had brought him glory in two of the biggest motorsport events in India,as the rallyist from Manali won Raid de Himalaya last year and Desert Storm recently. At the Dusshera Ground in Sector 34 in Chandigarh,during the Extreme (SUVs) category in the Super Special Stage of the SJOBA Thunderbolt Sub-Himalayan Open Rally,Rana once gain scorched the dusty tracks and clocked maximum points to finish the day on top along with his navigator Parishrut Jhina.

Rana was in top form right from the beginning. For the man who have been to some of the most challenging terrains in India,driving on dirt tracks seemed an easy game for him. And he did not disappoint the spectators who had come to witness some adrenaline-pumping action.

Rana and Jhina left behind Parminder Thakur and his navigator Virender Kashyap at the second position,followed by Harpreet Bawa and his navigator Jaspreet Gill at the third spot.

Meanwhile,in the Rally Extreme category,Dr Dhirender and his navigator Honey Narula formed a winning combination as the duo finished the day at the first position after garnering maximum points. Samrat Yadav and his navigator Simran Sangha ended the day on second position.

In the Extreme (Bikes) category,Jes David from Jaipur hogged the limelight as he left champion biker from Chandigarh Mohit Verma behind at the second position. David gave a perfect performance on his bike and deservedly ended the day at the first position. Baljit Singh was third.

A total of 24 jeeps ,5 cars and 23 bikers in SJOBA Rally Challenge (Exteme category) and 20 cars in Endurance category,took off today. This is the 26th edition of the rally.

On March 23,the rally will officially take off from St John’s High School,Sector 26,on Saturday. Rally Endurance will leave at 6.30 am. Punjab Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa will flag off Rally Extreme at 7 am.

Meanwhile,eZipp an electric bike that was launched in tricity by Chandgothia Associates recently is among sponsors for SJOBA Sub-Himalayan Rally 2013.
