Aarushi shows exit door to top seed Charvi

Playing in testing conditions,Aarushi Kakkar not only braved hot,humid conditions but also sudden rainfall,to stave off the challenge from Charvi Saxena,the top seed,and enter the semi-finals of the girl's Under-16 category of the CLTA AITA Talent Series tennis tournament held at the CLTA Stadium in Sector 10 on Wednesday. Keeping her nerves,Aarushi beat the top seed 6-2,7-6(4).

Playing in testing conditions,Aarushi Kakkar not only braved hot,humid conditions but also sudden rainfall,to stave off the challenge from Charvi Saxena,the top seed,and enter the semi-finals of the girl’s Under-16 category of the CLTA AITA Talent Series tennis tournament held at the CLTA Stadium in Sector 10 on Wednesday. Keeping her nerves,Aarushi beat the top seed 6-2,7-6(4).

Much before the sudden rainfall has threatened to play spoilsport,Aarushi,looking in prime form,made the perfect start when he grabbed the first set 6-2. However,Charvi showed why she was the top seed as he made a superb comeback into the match with a superb performance in the second set. Going neck to neck,both the players fought for every point. The match became more exciting when the score was tied at 6-all. However,it was not Charvi’s day as Aarushi walked away with the points and caused a major upset.

In another exciting quarter-final match,Gayatri Kumariah met a resilient challenge from Prinkle Singh,but managed to outwit her 6-4,4-6,6-4. The match swung to and fro in the well-contested three setter,but Kumariah came out with some winners to pull off a stunning win.

Pooja Moura and Nikita Bishnoi joined Aarushi and Kumariah in the semi-finals. Pooja Moura ousted Nimrat Walia 6-2,6-1 and Nikita Bishnoi outplayed Shrishty Dhanda 6-1,6-1.

Meanwhile,in the boy’s Under-16 category,Manjot Singh,Mritunjay Badola,Param Pun and Nihit Rawal were the players to secure places in the semi-finals.

Formidable Nihit Rawal played some well-executed ground strokes to eliminate Anshuman Gulia 6-2,6-2. Manjot Singh showed the exit door to Jotpal Singh 6-4,6-1 while Param Pun continued his winning spree as he outclassed Anuj Malik 6-2,6-1. Also, Mritunjay Badola got the better of Rohit Kumar 6-4,6-4,Abhumanyu Rozra staged a fine rally to beat spirited Yuvraj in three sets 4-5 (5),4-2,5-3 in the boy’s Under-12 singles match. Top seed Rishabh Sharda,Sahishnu Sharma and Anmol Rattan Kamboj also moved into semi-finals in the same category.
