The award was accorded at a ceremony held at the historic Lincoln’s Inn in London. Sahney was awarded for his philanthropic contributions after deliberations about their impact on society and culture.
The ceremony was attended by accomplished and influential Sikhs from the UK and abroad alongside senior dignitaries from the UK Parliament and administration.
Sahney’s office informed through a press release that the award was conferred by The Sikh Forum International — a cultural and charitable organisation which aims to promote the cultural heritage of Sikhism and spread its message of peace, oneness of God and universal brotherhood. Ranjit Singh OBE, Global President of The Sikh Forum International, presided over the ceremony.
Sahney, while thanking for the award, acknowledged the inclusiveness extended to the Sikh Community in Britain, and said it is the one to be celebrated and talked about. He also requested to set up a dedicated museum at London for the artefacts of Indian or Sikh origins to bring together Indian legacy at one place.
Sahney also urged Sikh International Forum to support education of Punjabi students in Oxford, Cambridge and London School of Economics in Britain and announced a contribution of 1,00,000 pounds towards setting up of the Education Scholarship fund for students aspiring to work in India after receiving education in Britain. He is also the Chairman of Sun Foundation which leads various initiatives to empower the disadvantaged communities.
Recently, Sahney had urged Gurudwara Singh Sabha to cut down on exuberant budgets towards structural beautifications and langars and to allocate budgets towards education of children and youth.
He has announced scholarships for Punjabi students willing to pursue preparations for Civil Services in India, in the light of recent UPSC results which showed the falling number of Punjabi representations among the Indian administrative services.
Titled Covid warrior for his exhaustive support for masses during the pandemic, Sahney works for the socio-economic upliftment of the Sikh community. His initiatives such as the Angels of Sun have supported many youths to achieve a fulfilling and prosperous career. He is also known as the employment man for providing skill training and jobs to several youths.
