High drama was witnessed as supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party allegedly violated Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code enforced by the Deputy Commissioner outside the Gujjar Bhawan in Sector 28 on Tuesday. The supporters broke the barricades in order to proceed towards the residence of the Haryana Chief Minister around 3 pm. Many of the supporters, protesting against several issues, were taken to the police station in Sector 26 in three buses. Later, a case was registered. “They broke the barriers and tried to proceed towards Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar’s residence. So they were all detained and brought to the police station,” said the Station House Officer, Inspector Poonam Dilawari. [related-post] Police booked 131 supporters, including five women, under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code, said Assistant Superintendent of Police (East) Parvinder Singh. The SHO said that all the accused were arrested and later released after they furnished bail bonds. There were 170 supporters protesting while those arrested were 131. Naveen Jain, the national executive member of AAP, said that they were protesting against the VIP culture in Haryana and Punjab. “When the Delhi CM can travel without a cavalcade of cars and without causing much disruption to the traffic, why can’t the CMs of Punjab and Haryana?” asked Jain. The protesters were seen wearing red beacon-like caps to protest against the VIP culture. Jain said that the party workers had been agitated as the BJP government was not supporting IAS officer Ashok Khemka who had recently been transferred. Also, no action had been taken against Robert Vadra in connection with the DLF scam despite adverse CAG reports. The AAP members also protested against the Haryana government not providing adequate compensation to the farmers after their crops were damaged. Also, there had been no employment generation for the youth, claimed Jain. The supporters sat in the rain inside the police station and started their protest march there. While the police were noting down their names and other details to book each one of them, they sat on the lawn of the police station and started singing songs.
