Historian,writer and director,Vijay Singh’s latest film,India by Song,is a multi-layered portrayal of India since Independence to the contemporary times.

Historian,writer and director,Vijay Singh’s latest film,India by Song,is a multi-layered portrayal of India since Independence to the contemporary times.

Organised by Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi,the film,which won the Best Documentary Film award at the River to River Florence Indian Film Festival in 2010,is being screened today. India by Song recreates the country as the camera takes one on the road,weaving in elements such as history,myriad Bollywood song clips and live testimonies to deliver a gripping tale. One can see actors,domestic helps,farmers and cricketers roll in and out of frames. Over the last two decades,Singh has written and directed acclaimed films such as Jaya Ganga and One Dollar Curry.

India by Song uses testimonies by historian Romila Thapar and business tycoon NR Narayana Murthy,and even stories of people such as Anjali,a domestic help in Mumbai who recounts her life in the times of globalisation.

The film will be screened at Government Museum & Art Gallery,Sector 10 C,today at 11.30 am.
