One of the canvases showing a lotus in its natural habitat brings out the beauty and purity of nature. Another one, showing a dying tree, highglights its sad plight. Earth Connection,an exhibition to promote awareness for the cause of environment, shows both sides of it.
Put up by Saplings-Care,an NGO,65 artists from across India have interpreted the theme of environment in their own artistic ways. While some paintings like those of flowers, animals and birds make a direct connection with nature, others do it symbolically with works inspired from Buddha, monks and some abstract figures.
While Manjit Mejies work a painting of Buddha and his disciple depicts the serenity and tranquility of nature,Satwant Singh Sumail has picked up a piece from his earlier collection Nature – The Mother,in which two women are fondly holding a fish. Art has always played an instrumental role in provoking thought and taking action. This show is an effort to generate ecological awareness using the universal language of art as a catalyst for individuals and society at large, says Neenu Vij,president of Saplings-Care,as she takes us through the works of Bheen Malhotra. Here, pigeons in the backdrop of a blue-black sky give a subtle message telling us how we are headed towards a dark era if one day, these birds go missing.
Navita Vohra engaged the visitors with her canvas showing three ladies from three different generations appreciating the nature. The works of Daphy Brar celebrated the play of colours. The bright-coloured butterflies looked all set to take a flight. The works of other prominent artists such as Madan Lal,Jiten Sahu and SK Sahni were also on display.
Anita Gupta experimented with different mediums, using various fibres to create a peacock on canvas. Another artist,Jasmine Kaur, tried to put the creator of the earth and His creation in one frame with Ganesha,Brahma, hills and water bodies painted in harmony.
