Gujarat to get 9 new district central cooperative banks: Govt

THE CABINET of Ministers of the Gujarat government, headed by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, on Wednesday gave an in-principle approval to the formation of nine new district central cooperative banks (DCCB) in the state, said an official release.

The nine DCCBs will be in the districts of Dahod, Aravalli, Tapi, Chhota Udepur, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Anand, Dang and Navsari, said government spokesperson and senior minister Jitu Vaghani.

In an official release, Vaghani was quoted as saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has resolved to expand rural cooperative banks in all the districts of the country following which Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has taken a special initiative.

As part of the initiative, NABARD has approached the Ministry of Cooperation with a note to start new DCCBs in some districts which include nine from Gujarat.

The release added that with the in-principle approval, farmers will be able to get finance easily boosting the rural economy.

The state government will now move a proposal before the Reserve Bank of India through NABARD for the formation of the new nine DCCBs.
