7 local AAP leaders arrested for extortion, trespassing in Khanna

The complainant added that the accused held him and his workers hostage in his own shops and abused them and also vandalised the shops. Meanwhile, other shopkeepers of the market gathered there following which the accused fled from the spot.

The Khanna police arrested seven local leaders of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on charges of alleged extortion and trespassing on the complaint of a shopkeeper.

Shopkeeper Ricky Mokar of Mata Rani Mohalla, in his complaint, told police that on Friday, the accused barged into their shops which were being repaired. The shops are owned by Nagar Council but they are in very poor condition so repairs were being carried out. The accused barged into three shops that were being repaired and said that the work was being done illegally. The shopkeeper alleged that the accused abused him and demanded money. They also allegedly threatened to stop the work.

The complainant added that the accused held him and his workers hostage in his own shops and abused them and also vandalised the shops. Meanwhile, other shopkeepers of the market gathered there following which the accused fled from the spot.

The arrested people were identified as AAP joint secretary Gurdeep Singh Deepu, Block Rural President Sukhwinder Singh, Block President Varinder Singh, Block President Urban Rajveer Sharma, Block President Urban Tarinder Singh, Youth President Khanna Raj Kumar Jassal, and incharge Ward No. 21 Prashant Dang.

An FIR under Section 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt), 342(wrongful confinement), 384 (extortion), 506(criminal intimidation), 355 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour a person otherwise than in a grave provocation), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of IPC was registered against the accused at Khanna City-2 police station.

Khanna SSP Amneet Kondal said that all seven were arrested and sent to 14-day judicial remand on Sunday by the local court after their one-day police remand ended.

Meanwhile, AAP’s Khanna MLA Tarunpreet Singh Sondh said that the party will not support anyone who would be involved in corruption or any wrongdoing. He said that law will take its own course and he or the party will not come in the support of anyone who will harass the common people. He said that earlier also some minor complaints were received against some of the arrested party workers.
