With the entrance styled as a gramophone,filmy food stalls,Bollywood Cell for producers,a movie screening hall Bombay Talkies,customised t-shirt painting stall,a replica of the Traffic park and the police control room named Dabbang,the Chandigarh Carnival kicked off on Friday with 100 years of Indian Cinema as its theme.
Chandigarh Advisor K K Sharma inaugurated the three-day mega event organised by the Tourism department and flagged off the Carnival Parade from Leisure Valley in Sector 10 which went upto Sukhna Lake. Home Secretary UT Anil Kumar,Director Tourism Tanvi Garg and other senior officers of the UT administration were also present at the ceremony.
Tableaux depicting Bollywood characters were prepared by students of Government College of Arts and Chandigarh College of Architecture based on the theme. The students had executed around 20 attractive and colourful floats from Raj Kapoor to Hrithik Roshan on rickshaws and four wheelers.
The activity stalls were named after Indian films. The Bollywood stall named Don,the Film Enclosure stall Aabra ka Dabra,Alliance Francaise Ishkq In Paris,Chandigarh Creative Circle Aandaz Apna Apna,Lalit Kala Academy Hariyali aur Rasta,British Library Namastey London,Sangeet Natak Academy as Geet Gata Chal and Government Museum and Art Gallery stall named as Filmi Bazaar were a major attraction.
The day-long festivities included cultural troupe performances,clowning acts where 12 clowns were dressed as Raj Kapoor in Mera Naam Joker and special performances by children of various city-based organisations.
Apart from Souvenir Shop and Le-Corbusier Centre,Vintage Car exhibition at Museum and Art Gallery was also a part of the Chandigarh Carnival this year. The Vintage and Classic Car Club,Chandigarh,will organise a Vintage and Classic Car Exhibition on all three days at the Government Museum and Art Gallery in Sector 10.
Meanwhile,the Chandigarh College of Architecture has decorated the Eiffel Tower based on An Evening in Paris. Daily activities at the carnival will include a quiz on cinema,daily shows on Evening in Paris and also an exhibition on the the film,organised by the students.
Amit Sana,of Indian Idol fame,and Rajan Srivastav,of Laughter Challenge,performed on the occasion. Day two of the carnival will see French movies being screened at the Bombay Talkies and Punjabi singer Amrinder Gill performing.
