Reworking the fare for Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) buses running on local routes, the UT Transport department on Wednesday decided to continue with the two-slab system. In a first, this system would be implemented for AC buses too. The exact date from when these revised rates would be implemented is to be decided soon. Secretary (Transport) Ram Niwas said the decision has been taken on the revision of CTU buses fare for the local routes.

For non AC buses, for the first 5 kms,it would be Rs 5 and Rs 10 above that. For mini AC buses,it would be Rs 10 upto 5 kms and Rs 15 above that.

“Earlier, the department had decided to keep one basic fare structure of Rs 10 and Rs 15 for non AC and AC buses respectively, removing the slab system which has been again revised keeping the commuters’ reactions in mind,” said Ram Niwas.

At present, the fare for non AC buses plying on local routes is Rs 5 and Rs 8 while the fare for AC buses is Rs 10. This is the third time that the Administration has revised its earlier decisions of change in the fare structure. Recently, the Administration had decided to keep one slab system of Rs 10 and Rs 15 for non AC and AC buses, respectively. Similarly, around two months ago the Administration proposed replacement of the existing two slab system for non AC buses with a single one; i.e. Rs 8 which was later increased to Rs 10.
