29 taken ill,doctors suspect diarrhoea

As many as 29 persons belonging to the slum area of Mohali village were admitted in Phase-VI Civil Hospital on Sunday with diarrhoea-like symptoms.

According to officials,in the absence of tap water,the slum dwellers have dug up shallow handpumps in the area. The 25 samples of water taken by the Health department from these pumps were found contaminated.

Deputy Commissioner Prabhjot Singh Mand has asked the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to check the increasing cases of diarrhoea in the area.

MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu and MP Ravneet singh Bittu also visited the patients.
