Two new cases of swine flu were reported from the city on Sunday,thus taking the total number of cases to 17. A six-month-old girl in Ambala tested positive for the disease too.
The latest victims in Chandigarh are a 26-year-old woman doctor working in the Department of Anaesthesia at Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32 and a 22-year-old girl student residing as a paying guest in Sector 32 .
The patients have been home quarantined along with the other members of their families. Three positive cases of flu have been reported in the city in the last 24 hours.
The swab samples of the Ambala infant was sent to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) a week ago,the results of which were obtained on Saturday. The infant has been admitted in the isolation ward of the Civil Hospital here,said Nodal Officer Dr Surender Mohan. This is the first swine flu case in the district,he said.
Meanwhile,the samples of the victims family will also be sent to Delhi for examination. The victims family,residents of Durganagar,returned from a trip to Maharashtra about a fortnight ago following which the child developed the symptoms of swine flu. The girl was first taken to a private medical practitioner and then referred to the Civil Hospital on August 22.
The samples of 14 persons who reported at the hospital were sent to NICD,Delhi,out of which one case was found positive,the officer said.
