2 motorcyclists hurt in accident allege Chandigarh PCR didn’t respond to repeated calls

TWO MOTORCYCLISTS who were injured in a road accident at Idea roundabout, Lalru, on Ambala-Chandigarh highway alleged that the Mohali police did not come to their rescue while some passersby kept dialling the number of police control room on Wednesday. The police also did not respond to the repeated calls of medical staff members of Civil Hospital, Derabassi, after the arrival of injured motorcyclists. The injured were identified as Sunil Kumar, 25, a resident of Sector 28 in Chandigarh, and pillion rider Amit Kumar, 21, of Sector 45.

The incident happened when Sunil and Amit were returning after attending to a work-related call from Ambala. They were hit by a speeding white car at Idea roundabout near Lalru Mandi on Chandigarh-Ambala highway around 12.30 pm. Sub-Inspector Sumit Mor said, “We are yet to receive any information about the accident. There is a procedure for passing on information about any accident to police station from Derabassi civil hospital.”

SHO of Lalru police station, Inspector Pushpinder Singh, claimed to be down with fever. Talking to Chandigarh Newsline, Sunil said, “We were not in a position to call anyone. Passersby made desperate calls at the police control room but got no response. But the helpline number of highway ambulance responded and rushed both of us to Civil Hospital, Derabassi, around 1.15 pm. At Derabassi civil hospital too, medical staff members made four calls at police control room, Mohali, informing that about the arrival of two injured from the area of Lalru police station. But till 6 pm, not a single policeman came to record our statements.”

Sunil suffered deep injuries to his back and he was unable to move. Amit’s right shoulder was fractured. At 6.45 pm, Sunil was referred to GMCH, Sector 32, while Amit was discharged.
