Two absconding Panjab University Students Union (PUSU) leaders were arrested by the Chandigarh Police late on Monday evening in connection with previous cases registered against them at the Sector 11 police station.
PUSU president Surjit Singh Brar and campus incharge Ravinder Singh Dhillon were arrested around 8 pm on charges of rioting,armed with deadly weapons,unlawful assembly,voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation. The case was registered against them when members of PUSU and INSO got involved in a fight near the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) at PU about a week ago.
Sector-11 SHO Gurmukh Singh said,The two had been on the run for a week. Their car was confiscated on the day of the brawl but they had managed to escape. The SHO added that Brar was wanted in some other cases too and was released from custody about 10 days ago.
