Gurmeet’s uncle Kala Singh, who tried to save him,was also attacked. Kala was, however, declared ‘out of danger’ by the doctors at Bathinda civil hospital on Wednesday after primary treatment.

Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police Ashish Chaudhry said the police have arrested three persons, namely Jatinder Singh,Balwinder Singh and Rajinder Singh, for the crime. On the complaint of Kala Singh, two others,Bobby Singh and Teja Singh, have been booked for the murder. “We are investigating the case and ascertaining the role of Bobby and Teja,” said the SSP.

It all began when deceased Gurmeet’s grandfather Balbir Singh asked Gurmeet to go and ask the group consuming liquor near their house to behave properly and not use vulgar language.

“My sister was in the house and they (persons consuming liquor) were using vulgar language in a loud voice. My grandfather asked Gurmeet to go and tell them to stop doing so,” said an inconsolable Gora,Gurmeet’s younger brother.
