15 members co-opted into SGPC house

As expected the five old and 10 new members,including former SGPC president Kripal Singh Badungar,two members of the Sant Samaj and one woman member,were co-opted into the SGPC House meeting held on Monday at the Teja Singh Samnudari Hall.

As expected the five old and 10 new members,including former SGPC president Kripal Singh Badungar,two members of the Sant Samaj and one woman member,were co-opted into the SGPC House meeting held on Monday at the Teja Singh Samnudari Hall. The first meeting of the new SGPC body was convened by Tarn Taran Deputy commissioner SS Johal and was attended by Chief Commissioner Gurudwara Election,Justice HS Brar,SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar and priests of other Takhts.

The SGPC House has a total of 191 members,including 170 elected ones,Jathedars of all five Takhts and the head priest of the Golden Temple.

A total of 15 members were to be co-opted to the SGPC House during the meeting,out of which,five should be from Punjab while the remaining 10 from the rest of the country.

The names of Kirpal Singh Badungar and Karnail Singh Panjoli from Punjab,Raghujeet Singh Virk from Haryana,Surjeet Singh Kang from Rajasthan and Gurinder Singh Bawa from Mumbai were already doing the rounds and as expected all the five were coopted on Monday.

With the Damdami Taksal-led Sant Samaj having joined hands with the SAD for the SGPC polls,two members from the Samaj including Jagtar Singh,brother of former Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode,and Charanjit Singh were also coopted.

Other co-opted members include Ram Singh of Akali Dal Amritsar,Jagtar Singh (Punjab),Sharanjit Singh (UP),Sukhmeet Singh (UP),Haramanji Singh,Bhupinder Singh,Gurminder Singh (all from Delhi) and Bibi Sukhwinder Kaur from Madhya Pradesh.

The co-option credentials of one,Ishar Singh from Hyderabad was rejected because he could not produce the required documents,said DC Johal.
