cbse class x results Last year 300 examinees secured CGPA 10; this time most institutions preferred own evaluation, notes CBSE Regional Director
Over 1,000 students of private schools located in Chandigarh,Panchkula and Mohali have fared well,securing the perfect 10 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in the Central Board of Secondary Educations (CBSE) class X examinations this year. The fact that a majority of the private schools in the Tricity had opted for the school-based board exam this year,is being attributed as one of the reasons for the high number of students securing CGPA 10 this year.
CBSE Regional Director R J Khanderao said,The key purpose of introducing the school-based board is to bring down stress levels among students. The results have shown much improvement this year when compared to previous years,since a majority of the schools preferred their own (school-based) evaluation this time.
While the overall passing percentage of 98.8 per cent in the Tricity this year has remained almost the same as last years 98.3 per cent,the number of students scoring the perfect 10 this year has shown a steep rise. Against the total of 300 students securing the highest CGPA 10,the number went up to 1000 this year. It is pertinent to note that the numbers are include details of only the private schools.
The pass percentage in the tricity was 98.8 per cent this year,where the girls outnumbered the boys. The passing percentage among girls was 99.2 per cent while that of boys was 98.76 per cent. Of the total of 20,902 students who appeared in the examination (both in government and private schools),20,666 have cleared the examination.

Of the total of 10,675 class X students from 80 government schools who appeared in the examination this year,10,553,have cleared the exam. Of these,118 have been declared Eligible for Improvement of Performance (EIOP).
Girls do it again
As per data available from 24 private schools in the Tricity,a total of 320 girls have secured CGPA 10 as against a total 262 boys securing the perfect 10 CGPA this year. Of these,79 girls are from Sacred Heart School,followed by 38 from Carmel Convent and 30 from Delhi Public School. The highest number of boys securing CGPA 10,meanwhile,were from Bhavan Vidyalaya Panchkula (47),followed by Delhi Public School (44) and St Johns School and Bhavan Vidyalaya with 34 boys from each.
EWS students
shine too
A total of 15 students from Sacred Heart School belonging to EWS families have secured above 8 CGPA. These include Pooja (8.4),Preeti (8.4),Neena (8.2),Madhuri (8.0) and Indu (8.0). Also,from St Johns school,two EWS students called Indradhanush students in the school,have secured CGPA above 9. They include Rahul(9.4) and Sahil (9.2).
Daily wagers son Rampal
beats extreme poverty
Rampal,a student of Government Secondary School,Sector 45,overcame economic hardships to score a CGPA of 8. His father Sadhu Ram works as a daily wager while his mother Avtari Devi is a housekeeper. His elder brother is pursuing his BCom degree. Rampal lives with his family in Colony No 5. In his free time he enjoys playing chess and said that he wants to do a diploma in mechanical engineering.
Rampal said he worked very hard for the exams and owed a lot of his success to Theatre Age,an NGO,I did not take any tuitions and used to come to the NGO directly after school got over to study. The teachers here always encouraged me to study and would help me with any doubts that I had. They also provided books,notebooks and stationary when I did not have the money. I could not have done this well without their help and guidance.
Summing up the results of Theatre Age this year,its President Zulfikar Khan said,This is the 12th year of Theatre Age getting 100 per cent result and this year too our students have exceeded expectations and done very well. The students of Theatre Age come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and are provided free coaching and other assistance.
