Police arrested the woman on Thursday and are on the lookout for her three accomplices. All four accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 389 (Putting a person in fear of accusation of offence, in order to commit extortion) and 120 (for criminal conspiracy). A 40-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday for allegedly extorting Rs 50,000 from a 76-year-old man by threatening to file a fake rape complaint against him. Three others, including two women, have been booked for the alleged criminal conspiracy.
Police said the incident took place on June 13, when the complainant –a 76-year-old widower, who lives alone in Fatehgunj — hired the arrested woman as substitute domestic help.
“When the woman arrived at the house of the complainant for work, she threatened to file a fake rape complaint against him. Soon, the other three accused– including two women– joined her and they demanded Rs 10 lakh to ‘settle’ the matter. Since the complainant was stunned and scared at the time, he paid them Rs 50,000 in cash. They negotiated the extortion amount to Rs 1.5 lakh. After waiting for a week, he approached police on Wednesday,” Sayajigunj police inspector RG Jadeja told The Indian Express.
According to the FIR filed by the complainant, his domestic help was on leave.
