Showers to continue in Bengaluru as IMD issues yellow alert in Karnataka till April 25

Rainfall in isolated parts of Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka is likely to continue, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert in the state till April 25.

The average rainfall recorded in the state till Monday (April 21) was double the normal amount, leading to a temperature drop in some parts of Karnataka. However, the northern districts like Kalaburagi, Bidar and Yadgir continued to experience maximum temperatures above 41 degrees.

Thunderstorms are also likely in isolated pockets of the South Interior Karnataka districts, including Bengaluru. In the Northern Karnataka districts, forecasts predicted thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds.

Karnataka has received 40 mm rainfall overall, as per data provided by the state’s natural disaster monitoring cell.

The coastal region, which normally receives an average of 19 mm during the period, registered 130 per cent excess rainfall recording 43 mm.  The North Interior Karnataka districts recorded 123 per cent excess, receiving 53 mm rainfall against a normal of 24 mm.

The pre-monsoon showers have resulted in a dip in temperatures in South Interior Karnataka districts such as Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapura and others with minimum temperatures in the range of 17.5 – 20 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature recorded was at Yadgir district, registering 41.9 degree Celsius.
