2 Rajasthan men held for cheating e-commerce firm, Mangaluru police suspect multi-crore scam

The two have been identified as Rajkumar Meena, 23, and Subhash Gurjar, 27, from Rajasthan. In a major breakthrough, the Mangaluru city police Sunday announced the arrest of two persons for allegedly cheating e-commerce firm Amazon. The police suspect that the duo defrauded the e-commerce giant of several crores of rupees.
The two have been identified as Rajkumar Meena, 23, and Subhash Gurjar, 27, from Rajasthan, and they reportedly carried out their fraudulent activities across 10 states, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Delhi, Assam, and Uttar Pradesh.
Mangaluru City police commissioner Anupam Agarwal said they started a probe after a case was registered at Urwa police station. According to the police, the accused used a fake address near the KSRTC bus stand and ordered high-value items like Sony cameras under the alias Amit.
At the time of delivery, Meena used to allegedly collect the package and provide an incorrect OTP, leaving the delivery personnel no choice but to take back the package. Meanwhile, Gurjar would swap the tracking labels from valuable cameras onto lower-value items by distracting the delivery personnel. So, the delivery personnel would not realise that s/he was carrying back the wrong package.
The duo resold the valuable items, discarding SIM cards after each order. Their scheme was exposed when they cancelled a high-value camera order, arousing suspicion at Amazon’s distribution centre.
The police seized Rs 11.45 lakh in assets from the pair. Meena was arrested on October 18, leading to Gurjar’s arrest in Mangaluru on October 28. Both suspects face additional fraud charges in Assam, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan.
