The Belagavi police in Karnataka Tuesday arrested two men for allegedly abducting and raping a 13-year-old girl.
The alleged crime occurred on November 23 when the Class 7 student was returning from a flour mill approximately 300 metres from her home. The two men allegedly followed her and dragged her away.
Bhimashankar Guled, Superintendent of Police, said the initial investigation revealed that one of the accused raped her while the other abetted the crime. The accused also allegedly threatened the girl’s family against informing the police, resulting in a delay in reporting the crime.
Following the complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
“Both accused have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody,” Guled said, adding that the girl’s family will receive police protection if needed.
In another incident, the Belagavi police Saturday arrested a guest lecturer at a private college in Belagavi who was recently accused of raping a minor student.
According to the complaint filed by the student, the accused had been raping her for the past two years. She also alleged that he threatened to kill her to prevent her from disclosing the matter.
Following the girl’s complaint, the police arrested the lecturer and placed him in judicial custody. The police said they are continuing their investigation.
