Karnataka man held for raping minor daughter for a year, impregnating her: Police

According to police, the man had threatened to kill her minor daughter if she revealed the abuse to anyone.

The police said the girl has been provided with counselling.

A 51-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating his 16-year-old daughter in Karnataka’s Gadag district, the police said on Wednesday.

The matter came to light Monday when the girl was taken to a hospital by her mother after she complained of swelling in her legs, they said.

After a medical examination, the doctors confirmed to the victim’s mother that she was 31 weeks pregnant, the police said. The woman confronted her daughter, who revealed that her father had been sexually assaulting her over the past one year when no one was at home, the police said.

He also threatened to kill her if she revealed it to anyone, a senior police officer said.

Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother with the Mulgund police station, a case has been registered under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the officer said, adding that the accused father was arrested Tuesday.

Police said the girl has been provided with counselling and will undergo a thorough medical examination.
