Karnataka Lokayukta seizes assets worth over Rs 18 crore from BBMP engineer, six other government officials

In simultaneous raids across 27 locations in the state on Friday, the Karnataka Lokayukta recovered assets worth more than Rs 18 crore in the form of land, houses, cash, jewellery, vehicles, and investments at properties linked to seven government officials.

The Lokayukta had raided the residences, offices, and other properties linked to these government officials, who were suspected of accumulating disproportionate assets.

Among the officials whose properties came under the scanner of the Lokayukta police was Madhav Rao, an Assistant Executive Engineer with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), who possessed assets worth Rs 8.57 crore, including seven sites, two houses, and 48.27 acres of agricultural land. Officials also seized Rs 97,200 in cash, Rs 55 lakh worth of jewellery, and vehicles valued at Rs 50 lakh from Rao’s properties.

Meanwhile, Deputy Secretary of the Bengaluru Rural Zilla Panchayat, T K Ramesh, was found to be in possession of Rs 2.21 crore worth of assets, which included three sites, one house, cash, jewellery, vehicles, and household articles.

In Chitradurga, assets worth Rs 1.78 — including one site, one house, and 9.14 acre of agricultural land — were recovered from K C Shashidhar, a manager in the District Backward Classes Welfare Department. Rs 58,000 cash, jewellery worth Rs 21.66 lakh and vehicles valued at Rs 34.81 lakh were also seized from Shashidhar’s possession

Sachin Basavant Mandedar, a First Division Assistant in the Belagavi North Sub-Registrar Office, had assets worth Rs 2.50 crore, which included one site, an under-construction house, agricultural land, and significant investments in bank deposits, mutual funds, and equity shares.

Another government official in Belagavi district, Sanjay Annappa Durgannavar, had Rs 74.07 lakh in assets, including four sites, a house, and agricultural land. Durgannavar, who is a Veterinary Inspector, also possessed Rs 2,190 in cash, Rs 9.92 lakh in jewelry, Rs 4.5 lakh worth of vehicles, and Rs 8.86 lakh in household items.

In Bagalakote, Shivalingaiah Panchaksharaiah Hiremath, a Panchayat Development Officer, possessed assets worth Rs 1.43 crore, including a site, a house, cash, jewelry, and vehicles.

Authorities seized assets worth Rs 1.20 crore, including five sites, two houses, cash, jewellery, and vehicles, from Narasinga Rao Gujjar, an Assistant Accounts Officer in Raichuru.
