Won’t join party, will only campaign for CM Bommai and a few other BJP candidates: Actor Sudeep
Earlier in the day, Kiccha had received alleged death threats prompting the police to register a case on the basis of a complaint by the actor’s manager.

Ending speculations of joining the BJP and contesting polls on a party ticket, actor Sudeep Wednesday said that he would only campaign for Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and the BJP candidates identified by him for the coming election. Sudeep is primarily known for his work in Kannada films but he has also acted in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi movies.
Addressing a news conference in Bengaluru attended by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Sudeep said that Bommai was like a father figure to him. “If he (Bommai) requires any help, I will assist him. I am saying that it is purely a support to an individual,” he said.
The actor said he will not be campaigning in all the constituencies, and his efforts in the elections will be restricted to segments recommended by Bommai. Sudeep is no stranger to campaigning, having sought votes for BJP candidate Muniratna during the 2020 bye-elections for the Rajarajeshwarinagar constituency in Bengaluru.
Sudeep said that he has known Bommai since a young age and calls him ‘mama’ (uncle). “He is among those who were with me when I was struggling. It is a duty and gratitude I have for this person… Today, I am very happy that Bommai is the leader of the state. I am supporting this person. I am here to announce this. I am here to offer support to my uncle (Bommai),” he said.
Bommai said that the actor’s support has provided strength to the BJP ahead of the May 10 polls. “I told him that even if he does not join the party, he should campaign for us, which he has agreed to. He will campaign for the party along with me,” the CM said, adding that Sudeep has not joined the party but was supporting him.
Responding to a question, Sudeep said that he agreed with the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and appreciated some of his decisions. “This has nothing to do with my support for Bommai,” he said.
Speaking on the threat letter received by him Tuesday, a day before his announcement, he said that it was not related to his decision to campaign for BJP candidates. “It is due to some personal issues in the film industry,” Sudeep said.
