Karnataka spent Rs 63,382 crore on 5 guarantee schemes so far: CM Siddaramaiah

The 5 guarantee schemes are Gruhalakshmi, Anna Bhagya, Gruha Jyothi, Shakti and Yuvanidhi.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday told the Legislative Assembly that the government has spent around Rs 63,382 crore on its five guarantee schemes ever since it came to power in 2023.

The five guarantee schemes are ‘Gruhalakshmi’ that pays Rs 2,000 to women, ‘Anna Bhagya’, which is a direct benefit transfer of money, ‘Gruha Jyothi’ that promises free electricity, ‘Shakti’ that offers free bus service for women, and ‘Yuvanidhi’ that gives financial assistance for unemployed graduates.

Responding to a question raised by Bharat Shetty, Mangaluru City MLA, the chief minister also elaborated on the details of the amount spent on each scheme. The government spent Rs 32,817 crore on Gruhalakshmi scheme; Rs 8,913 crore for Anna Bhagya, Rs 14,869 crore for Gruha Jyothi, Rs 6,543 crore for Shakti and Rs 221.3 crore for Yuvanidhi until November-end, he said.

Siddaramaiah said that in the 2024-25 budget, Rs 52,009 crore has been earmarked for the guarantee schemes.

On a question seeking the state government’s estimate for the guarantee schemes for next four years, he said the number of beneficiaries and the spending estimates would be done in the upcoming years accordingly.

The Gruhalakshmi scheme was launched on August 30, 2023, Gruha Jyothi and Anna Bhagya schemes on July 1, 2023, Yuva Nidhi on December1, 2023 and Shakthi on June 11, 2023.

In response to a question by U B Banakar, Hirekerur MLA, the CM said that the government has spent Rs 24,235 crore for the guarantee schemes till the end of October during this financial year. He specified that Rs 13,452 crore, Rs 2,583 crore, Rs 5,165 crore, Rs 2,925 crore and Rs 110 crore were spent on Gruha Lakshmi scheme, Anna Bhagya, Gruha Jyothi, Shakti scheme and Yuvanidhi respectively during the period.

Recently, Sharanprakash Patil, Minister for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Livelihood, told the House that around 1.4 lakh graduates from the state that account for 26 per cent have benefited from Yuva Nidhi scheme. The scheme promises to provide unemployment assistance of Rs 3,000 to degree holders and Rs1,500 monthly to diploma holders of Karnataka.
