Sculptor Arun Yogiraj, whose idol of Lord Rama has been selected for installation at the Shri Ram Janambhoomi in Ayodhya. (PTI)The Ram idol sculpted by renowned Karnataka sculptor Arun Yogiraj will be consecrated during the inauguration of the Ram temple on January 22, Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra announced on Monday.
In a post on X, the temple trust said, “The Murti sculpted on Krishna Shila, by renowned sculptor Shri Arun Yogiraj, has been selected as Shri Vigraha of Bhagwan Shri Ramlalla Sarkar.”
Earlier in the month, BJP Parliamentary Board member BS Yediyurappa had said that the idol by the sculptor from Mysuru will be selected for installation at the temple.
The temple trust selected Yogiraj among three sculptors to sculpt the Ram Lalla idol. Yogiraj used a 51-inch-long Krishna Shila stone from HD Kote in Mysuru district to carve out the idol. He told The Indian Express recently that he had started work on the idol six to seven months ago, and worked 12 hours a day in Ayodhya to finish the sculpture.
Yogiraj had also sculpted the Adi Shankaracharya idol installed in Kedarnath, and one of freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose installed near India Gate in New Delhi.
