Karnataka State Minerals Corporation MD Mahantesh Bilagi dies in road accident in Kalaburagi

Initial reports said that Mahantesh Bilagi, a 51-year-old IAS officer, was heading to attend a relative’s marriage in Ramadurga.

Senior IAS officer Mahantesh Bilagi, Managing Director, Karnataka State Minerals Corporation Limited, and two of his relatives died after they met with an accident at Jewargi in Kalaburagi district on Tuesday.

Initial reports said that Bilagi, 51, was heading to attend a relative’s marriage in Ramadurga. The incident took place around 5.30-6 pm, when he and his relatives Shankar Bilagi and Eeranna Bilagi were travelling in a car.

According to police sources, the car driver was speeding and tried to avoid hitting a dog or two-wheelers, and lost control of the vehicle. The car toppled before falling to the roadside.

The bodies of Bilagi and his two relatives were removed from the mangled car later.

The Jewargi police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

Bilagi was a 2012-batch, Karnataka-cadre IAS officer who previously served as the managing director of Bescom and also as a deputy commissioner in a few districts.
